Chisinau, March 4, 2010. Eurasia Foundation’s Moldova Representative Office, in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sport, is launching the Youth Bank project designed to encourage young people’s participation in social and economic development in their communities.  

The Youth Bank project is new for Moldova and is based on Youth Bank methodology which is an innovative grant making initiative run by young people for young people.  The unique approach of the program is that young people will take decisions about how local Youth Banks are managed and run. 

The project will be implemented in partnership with local organizations from 3 regions of Moldova. The project will select and fund local partner organizations that will support the initiation of 3 local Youth Banks. 

The project will increase young people's participation in community social development by building the capacities and expertise of local youth and the community organizations, which support them. As a follow up activity of the project, approximately 70,000 USD will be allocated for a number of young people that will continue to participate in their communitys’ social development through youth-led actions and volunteerism. 

This initiative is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
