Chisinau, Moldova - The first European Interactive Center “Pro-Europa” will be opened at Cahul State University on 20 February 2007. The Center is part of a joint program between the Eurasia Foundation Moldova Representative Office and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and European Integration. 

The Center will be operated by two Cahul-based NGOs, Dialog and Contact-Cahul. Its objectives will be to inform and engage the public on issues related to European integration such as travel to the EU, work and education in EU countries. By offering a platform for discussion for the public (especially young people, women, farmers and teachers), local government officials, and business groups, the center will seek to increase citizen participation in the decision-making process at the local level.  

A second center will be opened in Balti in March this year.  

Following the opening of the center, the regional conference “Cooperation between local public authorities and civil society in the European integration process” will take place at the Cahul District Council conference room.  Both events will be attended by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Vladimir Voronin. Members of civil society organizations, local public authorities, mass-media, diplomatic missions and the international donor community will also attend.  The opening of the center and its work are made possible by funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida/Asdi), the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United States Agency for International Development.
